The NEMA/ANSI C78 Committee for Electric Lamp Standards has two working groups developing chromaticity standards addressing non-white light (NWL).  C78.377 working group This working group is revising the ANSI C78.377-2017 standard by adding 1800K and 2000K nominal and extended quadrangles. C78.378 working group  This working group is creating a new ANSI C78.378 standard defining long [...]

The DLC is planning updates to the SSL Technical Requirements. Originally planned for two-phased updates, feedback received has convinced DLC that a single update as V6.0 would be less disruptive and provide greater value. SSL V6.0 represents a major update with an efficacy increase and associated product delistings. It also includes proposed updates that support [...]

The International Commission on Illumination (CIE) is a global non-profit organization dedicated to advancing knowledge and standardization in lighting. The CIE Research Strategy 2023 outlines key research priorities for advancing the science and application of light and lighting. The Research Strategy identifies critical topics for researchers to study to support future CIE reports and [...]

Here are the key findings and trends: Top Technology Features The study revealed that home buyers prioritize technology features that enhance energy efficiency and improve safety: Programmable thermostat (78% rated as essential/desirable) Security cameras (76%) Video [...]

The DALI Alliance, TALQ Consortium, and Zhaga Consortium have signed a liaison agreement to unify data streams for smart street lighting systems. This collaboration aims to enhance interoperability among outdoor lighting solutions, simplifying investment decisions for public and private sectors. DALI develops digital lighting control specifications based on the IEC 62386 standard, offering certification programs [...]

In commercial and industrial LED lighting, drivers historically were isolated using transformers to step-down voltage, however there is increasing use of non-isolated drivers. Understanding Isolated Drivers An isolated driver is an electrical device that employs a transformer to step down high voltage to a lower one, which is then rectified into DC output. The term [...]

FlashNet is a novel optical signal-based wireless device control technology developed by LiteTrace for managing commercial lighting systems. This patent-pending technology enables wireless control of Keilton+autani daylight harvesting sensors through precision light signals, allowing users to interact with their lighting devices from up to 50 feet away. How FlashNet Works A specially coded flashing [...]

Entertainment laser light shows are nothing new, but increasingly the laser projector technology developed for entertainment lighting is being adopted in architectural lighting. There are two fundamental ways of making white laser light sources. The first is combining at least three colored lasers, such as red, green, and blue. This is analogous to RGB [...]

iGuzzini’s Trick em is a compact luminaire that creates dynamic, chasing lighting effects, including blades of light, radial light, and wall washing. See the video loops directly above and below. The stripes of light produced reveal architectural curves, textures, and other details. The product is offered with three different bases enabling axial rotation and [...]
