Fine-Tuning the Characterization of Color Rendition with Chroma Shift and Gamut Shape

To help the lighting industry develop and implement new color-rendering methods and metrics that address the shortcomings of the commonly used CRI metric, the U.S. Department of Energy conducts research to enhance understanding of color rendition. An article based on this research, “Chroma Shift and Gamut Shape: Going Beyond Average Color Fidelity and Gamut Area,” was recently published in the journal LEUKOS.

Product Monday: Connected Smart T8 Lamps by Lunera

Lunera’s Smart T8 delivers energy savings through its integration of LED technology, embedded microprocessors and an ambient light sensor; external occupancy sensors; and commissioning/energy/lighting management software. Together these create an open and cloud-connected solution, enabling Lunera and third-party applications to use the infrastructure beyond networked lighting controls for energy management optimization including occupancy-based HVAC control and peak power usage management.

BriteSwitch recently sent out an email identifying key lighting rebate trends. LED rebates are leveling off after years of declining average rebate amounts. The DLC Premium category is making inroads into programs, while DLC is currently adding additional lamps and color-tuning luminaires. Control rebates, meanwhile, are going strong.

Philips Lighting to Change Name to Signify

Philips Lighting recently announced announced its intention to change its name from Philips Lighting to Signify. In a press release, the company stated, “The choice of our new company name originates from the fact that light becomes an intelligent language, which connects and conveys meaning.”
