Ruud Lighting Incorporated has announced the promotion of Christopher Ruud to president, a role that his father, Alan Ruud, held since founding the company in 1982. In his new role as president, Christopher will oversee all U.S.-based business units and operations. Alan will retain his role as chairman and CEO.

Cree, Inc. recently announced record revenue of $169.1 million for its first quarter of fiscal 2010, ended September 27, 2009. This represents a 20% increase compared to revenue of $140.4 million reported for the first fiscal quarter last year and a 14% increase compared to the fourth quarter of fiscal 2009.

The Huffington Post has posted a nice little slide show of critters that produce light using a bioluminescent process. The sea cucumber is beautiful to watch, but my vote for favorite went to the firefly. I grew up on a farm watching them light the field like moving sparks. Check it out here.
