LIGHTFAIR Innovation Awards

The world’s largest annual architectural and commercial lighting trade show and conference, LIGHTFAIR International (LFI) was held May 6-10 at McCormick Place in Chicago. The trade show kicked off with the LFI Innovation Awards, which honors innovative new lighting products introduced over the previous 12 months.

Exhibitors submitted 239 products in 14 categories covering various types of lamps, luminaires, lighting controls, and other products. Integrated control is a key trend, including app-based control, IoT enabling and color tuning.

The top winners included:

Most Innovative Product of the Year: This award recognizes the best new product. This year’s award went to the NU Vector Series downlight by Alphabet Lighting, a division of LEDRAbrands. This downlight offers dynamic beam shaping, full tilting, and full wireless control via an app or wall control.

Design Excellence Award: This award recognizes outstanding achievement in design and application. This year’s award went to the FlexConnect Architectural Linear Lighting System by Juno, a division of Acuity Brands. Well-suited to grazing, washing, and other lighting effects, this solution features miniature silicone optics in a package that can be shaped to follow architecture, including curves, while allowing field cutting/reconnecting in the field. Choice of distributions, up to 400 lumens per foot.

Technical Innovation Award:
This award recognizes the most significant leap forward in lighting technology. This year’s award went to the SolarSync GLS-LCCT Photosensor by Crestron Electronics. This sensor, which mounts on the roof, measures precise daylight luminosity and CCT and reports it to a Crestron lighting control system, which tunes RGB luminaires to align indoor CCT.

Judges’ Citation Award: The judges may bestow this award to provide special recognition to a product. This year, they granted it to LumEfficient’s LiFi Ores Downlight, which functions as both a fixed LED downlight and a LiFi access point.
