
Sleepal AI Lamp is a smart bedside luminaire designed to combine circadian-aware lighting, environmental sensing and contactless sleep analysis in a single consumer product. Positioned at the intersection of connected lighting, wellness technology and smart-home control, the Kickstarter-backed product seeks to replace wearable sleep trackers with a fixed, camera-free bedside device.
Rather than relying on a wristband, ring or under-mattress sensor, the lamp uses millimeter-wave radar, thermal sensing and acoustic monitoring to collect overnight signals. Sleepal says this sensor fusion can identify sleep stages, breathing patterns, snoring, movement, body position, heart-rate-related measures and nighttime awakenings. The system also monitors bedroom conditions including temperature, humidity, ambient light and sound, presenting those factors as contributors to sleep quality rather than treating sleep data in isolation. CES describes the system as designed to distinguish an individual user’s sleep signals even when another person is in the room.
The product’s key differentiation is that the sensing package is integrated into a functional task luminaire rather than presented as a standalone health device. The lamp reportedly supports tunable white light spanning approximately 2500K to 5500K, along with RGB color capability. This enables warm, lower-intensity light for wind-down periods and potentially cooler white light for morning or daytime use. Its sleep-oriented programming includes guided relaxation, meditation, soothing audio and paced-breathing modes that synchronize light behavior with the activity.
Sleepal also functions as a smart-lighting control point. The product supports automated lighting actions such as switching off when sleep is detected, activating a low-level night light when a user gets out of bed, and turning lighting off in an unoccupied area. These routines can be constrained by time, detected ambient illuminance, proximity, and user-selected light settings. The company highlights interoperability with Apple HomeKit and Home Assistant, as well as Matter integration, which could make the product relevant to broader multi-vendor smart-home deployments.
The companion app converts nightly measurements into a sleep score, longitudinal trends and personalized recommendations. Core outputs include sleep-stage breakdowns, sleep duration and efficiency, breathing and snoring indicators, and room-environment data. The company frames its recommendations as habit guidance and circadian-supportive routines, not as a substitute for clinical diagnosis. That distinction remains important: consumer sleep metrics can be useful for observing patterns and prompting behavioral adjustments, but they should not be interpreted as medical findings without appropriate professional evaluation.
Privacy is a central part of Sleepal’s positioning. The product does not use an optical camera, and sensitive signals are processed locally. A physical sensor-mute switch is intended to provide a hardware-level way to disable selected sensing functions. This approach addresses a significant adoption barrier for bedroom monitoring products, where users may be reluctant to place always-on cameras or cloud-dependent microphones near the bed.
Sleepal illustrates a broader move toward value-added luminaires: fixtures that combine illumination with sensing, automation, wellness content and connected-home integration. Its commercial proposition will depend on the real-world reliability of the sensing algorithms, ease of commissioning, privacy execution and the practical value users derive from sleep coaching. Nonetheless, the concept demonstrates how bedroom lighting can evolve from a simple control endpoint into an active interface for personalized environmental and wellbeing management.
