The CIE has recently published a new technical report and an international standard:

Technical Report: CIE 255:2025 – The Functional Visual Field, 44 pages

Technical Report CIE 255:2025, titled “The Functional Visual Field,” provides a comprehensive review of human visual field studies. The report aims to enhance understanding of the visual field’s role by classifying its sensory functions and visual tasks into two main categories:

Finding and obtaining information: This category includes detection, discrimination, resolution, identification, and motion detection.

Integration of information for vision-related tasks: This includes activities such as reading and eye-motion coordination.

The report presents relevant studies and typical data for each category, offering insights into the functional aspects of the human visual field. It also includes examples of applications that utilize knowledge of the functional visual field.
