2013 Lighting for Tomorrow Winners Announced

The eleventh annual Lighting for Tomorrow residential energy-efficient lighting product design competition recognized five LED luminaires, two LED replacement lamps, two LED retrofit kits and, for the first time, one organic LED (OLED) fixture as winners. Seven more products were identified with honorable mentions or as other noteworthy.

The competition, which recognizes the best-designed energy-efficient lighting products entering the residential market, received 123 entries, including 70 LED luminaires, eight LED outdoor luminaires, 26 LED lamps, nine LED retrofit kits, seven lighting control products and three OLED luminaires. These products were evaluated for four potential awards: Winner (with some further recognized for Innovation), Honorable Mention and Noteworthy.

The winning LED luminaires included:

• Legrand for its Adorne Undercabinet Lighting, further recognized with an innovation award for its inventive system approach;
• Juno Lighting Group for its Juno Arc LED Trac Fixture;
• Liton Lighting for its 2-in. Mini-Arc Recessed LED Downlight;
• Philips Consumer Luminaires North America for its LED Pendant Holder; and
• Samjin Lnd Co., Ltd. for its Circulator Ceiling Light.

Edge Lightng, Juno, Prism Co., Ltd. and WAC Lighting received honorable and/or noteworthy mentions for their luminaire products.

In the retrofit kit category, Evolution Lighting, LLC was award for its Zoom Retrofit. Nesora Light Technologies won for its Integra LED Disc, which also received an Innovation Award for its impressive light output and light distribution.

Within the LED replacement lamp category, the judges chose two winners: LEDnovation for its Bright for Life BR30 LED lamp, and SWITCH Lighting for its SWITCH Infinia 60 LED A-lamp. Illumination Machines and Acuity Brands received honorable or noteworthy mentions.

Lutron Electronics Co., Inc. won for its Maestro Occupancy Sensor C*L Dimmer, and earned a noteworthy award for its Hi-Lume A-Series LED driver. The judges found the controls to be “smarter” than previous years’ entries, with features such as self-calibration and interfaces with personal communication devices.

In 2013, the awards program featured OLED lighting products. Of the three entries, WAC Lighting won for its Vela Chandelier. The judges found the entries in this category to demonstrate good potential for high-quality, energy-saving residential lighting applications.
