IESNYC Announces Winners of 2021 Student Lighting Competition

The Illuminating Engineering Society’s New York City (IESNYC) section recently announced the winners of the 2021 Student Lighting Competition (SLC).

Top prizes were awarded to Pratt Institute students enrolled in their Industrial Design program. Asilbek Akmalov won the Grand Prize of $5,000 for “In Transit,” an installation that pays tribute to the NYC Subway System. Rose Moon won Second Place and $2,500 for “February 4, 2021.” Hongxuan Wubn’s “After Life,” and Jackson Dooner’s “Light Tunnels” tied for Third Place, and both students will receive an award of $1,000.

In lieu of producing a public exhibition as in past years, this year’s installations can be viewed on the Student Lighting Competition’s “Virtual Gallery” here.
