In my May 2020 lighting column for ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR, I covered the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers’ (ASHRAE) free design guides for buildings that achieve net-zero energy consumption without compromising quality. The first publications in the series cover K-12 school buildings (January 2018) and small to medium office buildings (June 2019) that are new and approached as a retrofit. The article summarizes the lighting recommendations in these guides.
