Product Monday: Moss Hexa Crushes Its Kickstarter Goal

Mosslab’s Moss Hexa brings biophilic design into decorative lighting through a modular wall system combining living moss, integrated LED illumination and wood accents. Launched on Kickstarter October 13, 2026, the product allows users to assemble hexagonal panels into customizable compositions, positioning greenery and ambient lighting as elements of the same interior feature rather than separate installations. After just three days, the Moss Hexa Kickstarter raised $105,179 with a fundraising goal of only $5,000!

Three Modules, One Mounting System

The platform includes three panel types: Basic, which showcases real moss; Light, which combines moss with integrated ambient lighting; and Wood, which introduces a contrasting wood-finish surface. All three share Mosslab’s HexaLock magnetic mounting system, allowing individual modules to be removed, exchanged or repositioned without replacing the installed wall brackets.

Panels measure approximately 8.27”×7.09”×1.42”. Their hexagonal geometry supports multidirectional layouts, from compact three-panel accents to larger wall compositions. Mounting options include screws and adhesive, with an alignment guide intended to simplify installation. The Basic panel incorporates polycarbonate, steel and magnetic components.

Lighting and Controls

Each lighting panel provides adjustable ambient illumination with a stated dimming range of 1–100% and maximum power consumption of 7W. An integrated ambient-light sensor automatically adjusts brightness as surrounding light conditions change. The lighting emphasizes the moss’s texture and depth while adding a decorative glow to the room.

Light panels interconnect through USB-C connections. One Control Hub and Power Adapter supports up to nine illuminated panels, establishing a defined expansion limit per hub. The Hexa App provides manual control, lighting presets and a scheduling feature called Natural Daily Rhythm. No independently validated circadian benefits are provided.

The available product information reviewed does not specify lumen output, efficacy, correlated color temperature, color rendering, flicker performance or compatibility with established architectural lighting-control protocols. Accordingly, Moss Hexa is best understood as a decorative ambient-lighting system rather than a documented substitute for general or task illumination. These omissions also leave important specification questions unresolved for commercial projects.

Living Material, Ongoing Care

Mosslab describes the product as using 100% real, living moss in a soil-free system. Unlike maintenance-free artificial greenery, the panels require periodic attention: the company recommends light misting with water, approximately once a week, indoor use, and placement away from direct sunlight. Natural variations in moss color and texture make each installation visually distinct.

Pricing and Availability

Announced first-72-hour Kickstarter pricing included $59 for a three-panel Basic Starter Pack and $99 for a three-panel Light Starter Pack. Nine-panel Basic and Light packages started at $159 and $229, respectively, while a 15-panel mixed Signature Styling Pack started at $339. These were time-limited launch offers (expired last week), not established ongoing retail prices. U.S. shipping was estimated from $25 for three panels, with fulfillment targeted for June 2027.

Moss Hexa illustrates a product direction: modular accent illumination integrated with living materials, app-based control, and user-configurable wall décor.
