Zumtobel Launches First Manufacturer Remanufacturing Service

Zumtobel, in Europe, has launched the first remanufacturing service by a luminaire manufacturer. The new standardized remanufacturing service extends the life of lighting systems to at least two product life cycles. The full-service, turnkey package covers everything from deinstallation and remanufacturing to reinstallation.

The as-new remanufactured system will provide at least equivalent performance, as well as a new factory warranty. It will reuse components, extend system life, reducing material consumption, CO2 emissions by 30-50%, and total cost of ownership (TCO). A long-term service agreement makes upgrade cycles predictable and ensures security of supply.

Zumtobel’s remanufacturing service also includes regular maintenance of the lighting systems and an annual inspection. This marks the first time a manufacturer can offer a fail-safe, sustainable multi-use model that covers at least two use cycles. After remanufacturing, Zumtobel will reinstall the lighting system either at the original site or at a new location.

For remanufacturing, Zumtobel relies on a standardized factory process in which reused components are combined with new ones. The luminaires are dismantled, individual components are tested, cleaned, repaired or replaced, and the system is restored to an as-new condition. Key electronic components such as drivers and LED modules are upgraded. Depending on the product, software updates may also be part of the process.

The remanufacturing agreement including regular maintenance and an annual inspection of the lighting systems can now be signed when purchasing selected luminaires (in Europe) from the TECTON II, VIVO II, PANOS III, CRAFT II and FACTOR II series product families.
