Product Monday: Spotlight Has Auto Tunable White For Retail

An interesting find at LightFair last week, was a retail spotlight that used a color detection sensor and AI to automatically optimize color rendering of retail merchandise, based on the color of the object illuminated. The company is K&L Kinglumi Co., Ltd., a contract manufacturer of the Caimeta smart spotlight system.

At their LFI booth, they demonstrated the product by pointing it at different color clothing on display and the spectrum of the spotlight would automatically change based on the color of the clothing it was aimed at. For a red dress, it produced warmer CCT light, and for a blue dress, it produced a cooler CCT. The CCT range is between 2700K to 6500K. The AI spectral tuning is not just a change in CCT, however. The system can also vary the color rendering using TM-30 parameters of color fidelity (Rf) and color gamut (Rg).

The aperture of the spotlight has a built-in sensor that determines the color of the object being illuminated. It then uses AI algorithms to auto-adjust the spectral output to optimize rendering of the retail merchandise. The representative demonstrated this not just on womens’ dresses, but also on apples of various colors, as well as different color walls.

The Caimeta AI platform can do more than auto-adjust spectral output based on the color of the merchandise illuminated. It can also do data collection and analysis to optimize product selection, traffic flow, and sales strategies to improve the customer experience and increase sales. Data can be collected by merchandise SKU as well as customer behavior. The system can also do occupancy sensing for energy savings. This occupancy sensing can adjust light levels and CCT based on customer traffic throughout different parts of a store.
