The lion’s share of specification-grade LED luminaires available today feature limited preconceived field service capabilities, so failures result in total luminaire replacement. The associated costs of this reality are difficult to explain and defend. ANSI/IES LM-80 and TM-21 are widely misused by suppliers across the global lighting industry with some vendors presenting LED lifetime claims exceeding the average human life expectancy of most countries.
