ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR Publishes Article on LED Maintenance

light_bulb_replaceMy lighting column in the April 2013 issue of ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR addresses LED product maintenance. Over the past months, I’ve had the opportunity to work with the IES Maintenance Committee on revising RP36, and conducted extensive interviews with manufacturers and others about maintaining LED products. As you might suspect, they’re not quite maintenance free.

    The usage of LEDs within the display and illumination technology is drastically increasing. The determinant factors for this development are not only the reduced size of the components, but decisively the increased life-cycle, lower energy consumption, increased performance, and broad range of color usage (color gamut).

    LEDs have become a part of our lives, illuminating with their high intensity. They have shown their importance in today’s world with the increase in Electrical products, but they are still used very widely at a very high level.

    LEDs are growing and are proven to be the best lighting technology in recent times. For the electrical contractors,LEDs are a boon as they require less maintenance with maximum efficiency.

    I think the notion of checking the light levels ever year is probably the most cost-efficient solution. You can even space it out maybe even to every couple of years, due to LEDs long life.
