New York State Adopts 2009 International Energy Conservation Code

On April 1, 2010, the New York State Building Code Council voted to adopt the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code, which will be known as the Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State and will apply to all jurisdictions in the State.

When within the jurisdiction of the City of New York, administration and enforcement of the Code will be in conformance with Title 28 of the Administrative Code of the City of New York or with the New York City Electrical Code, as applicable.

Adoption has no transition period and will be effective after notice of adoption is published in the New York Register, which is expected to occur September 2010.

I’m curious if you know if there were any changes/amendments to the document before the adoption or was the 2009 IECC adopted “as is”?

  2. Hi Andrew. From the information I currently have, it was adopted without amendment, but there is always the possibility my information is incomplete. Practitioners in the state should confirm their requirements.
