DLC Finalizing Horticultural V4.0 Technical Requirements
David Shiller February 25, 2025

The Hort V4.0 draft was sent out for comments in November and the comment period concluded in December. With few comments received, DLC is preparing to release the final V4 Technical Requirements, in March. Hort V4.0 introduces three key updates to the Hort Technical Requirements that support the acceleration of energy efficient lighting in controlled environment agriculture: Efficacy increase: Hort V4.0 increases the efficacy threshold to 2.5 μmol × J-1, which is an 8.7% increase over the Hort V3.0 threshold. This will set the DLC efficacy threshold for LED-based horticultural lighting at more than 45% above the most efficacious non-LED option. Removal of lamp categories: Hort V4.0 will remove eligibility for lamps. This decision was made based on low application numbers in lamp categories. Clarifications to various requirements: A variety of clarifications will be made throughout Hort V4.0, including for definitions of key terminology and for certain testing requirements. The final Hort V4.0 Technical Requirements will be released in March. The Draft 1 Hort Technical Requirements can be found here. Image: DLC |
