The Robert J. Besal Memorial Education fund, which provides scholarships to students in the illuminating engineering disciplines, is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary this year. The Fund has awarded nearly a million dollars in scholarships with the aspriration to encourage talented and committed students to excel in their studies and choose a career in the lighting industry.
Established in 1983, The Fund is a nonprofit endowment created to memorialize the leardership of Robert J. Besal, an executive at Lithonia Lighting, an Acuity Brand. The trust is funded by Acuity Brands, its sales representatives and employees. According to the organization’s website, the nonprofit is a separate enterprise.
To be eligible, students must attend one of the participating univeristies (see chart below) and will apply via the school’s Besal Fund Liasion. No applications are accepted directly from students. Award annoucements are made each spring. More details about the scholarship fund can be found here.
