LightNOW Fall Philanthropy Series Update

Recently, we announced the LightNOW Fall Philanthropy Series. The series will spotlight some of the stories of impact, giving, and commitment made by people and companies in our industry. We are excited that so many companies and organizations have signed on to participate. LightNOW Fall Philanthropy Series Update

As part of our background research for the series, we learned about an exciting fundraiser working to fight childhood cancer, and it is a story that just can’t wait until the end of the month. Our friends at Current are participating in The Great Cycle Challenge to Fight Kids Cancer.  As of this writing on September 6, the 26-member Current Team has ridden 690.4 miles and raised $6,320.23. It is a great start towards their goal of riding 5,000 miles and raising $15,000.

From their team webpage, “Current believes in DOING RIGHT for our employees, our customers, our families and our extended communities. We ride to raise money to fight kid’s cancer.” On their challenge board, the team shared:

“…Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So we are raising funds through our challenge to help these kids and support Children’s Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.”

The fundraiser supports the Children’s Cancer Research Fund (CCRF), a national non-profit dedicated to ending childhood cancer. Their focus is on supporting the research of scientists across the country whose ideas can make the greatest impact for children fighting cancer. In addition to research, CCRF also funds resources and programs that help kids and families as they navigate the difficult experience of cancer treatment and survivorship.

Current would like to invite others to join in the Great Cycle Challenge – by joining the Current team, creating their own team, or participating as an individual. It is a win-win since cyclists get their miles and their exercise, and CCRF gets much-needed financial support for their important work.
