NEMA Applauds Introduction of Bipartisan Resolution Recognizing May as Electrical Safety Month

NEMA Publishes C137.9-2025: NLC Systems Configuration Report

ARLINGTON, Va. — The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) and the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) today applauded the introduction of H.Res.443 – a resolution expressing support for the designation of May 2025 as “National Electrical Safety Month”.

The bipartisan resolution introduced by Representatives Janelle Bynum (D-OR) and Rob Bresnahan (R-PA) underscores the purpose of National Electrical Safety Month as an opportunity to educate the public about lithium-ion battery safety, disaster safety, and e-mobility safety. This year’s theme contributes to the larger goal of promoting electrical safety in homes, workplaces, and during storms and natural disasters.

“NEMA is proud to partner with ESFI to raise awareness, share resources, and offer smart solutions to promote electrical safety, particularly during National Electrical Safety Month,” said NEMA President and CEO Debra Phillips. “We’re grateful to Representatives Bynum and Bresnahan for leading this effort and look forward to continuing to work with our friends in Congress and in communities across the U.S. to ensure electrical safety is built into the technologies and products accelerating our energy future.”

“National Electrical Safety Month is about saving lives, reducing risk, and preventing property loss by raising awareness about the importance of electrical safety in communities. ESFI is grateful to Reps. Bynum and Bresnahan for amplifying this message at the highest levels,” said Jennifer LeFevre, Executive Director, Electrical Safety Foundation International.

“As an electrical engineer, I know firsthand how important it is to practice good electrical safety,” said Rep. Bynum. “That’s why I’m proud to introduce the Electrical Safety Month Resolution. Increasing awareness and having open conversations around electric safety helps save lives, reduce risk to homes and businesses, and keep our families safer.”

“As a previous electrical contractor myself, I realize how critical electrical safety is — not just on job sites, but in our homes, schools, and workplaces,” said Rep. Bresnahan. “During National Electrical Safety Month, I’m proud to join my colleague, Rep. Bynum, in recognizing the vital importance of promoting safe practices, supporting workforce training, and raising awareness to prevent accidents and save lives. Electrical safety isn’t just a technical concern, it’s a public safety priority, and I’m honored to stand with the industry professionals and communities who make it their priority every day.”
