The Zhaga Consortium is launching the global Zhaga Smart City Sensor Awards to address the needs of many cities that have installed Zhaga-D4i certified streetlights. The awards encourage and recognize excellence in smart city sensors that can be installed on streetlights using the Zhaga Book 18 standard and are suitable for Zhaga-D4i certification.

In February, 2022, Zhaga approved Book 25 “NFC Readers with Bluetooth Interface for In-Field Programming”. This new Zhaga specification defines a Bluetooth Low Energy communication protocol for the communication between the field-maintenance application on a smart device and the Near Field Communication (NFC) reader.

The Zhaga Consortium has published a whitepaper, “How Zhaga addresses Sustainability and the Circular Economy.” The publication points out that durable, repairable, and upgradeable LED luminaires are key elements to sustainable lighting.

Luger Research and Zhaga have announced that the 2020 LpS/TiL conference will host a Zhaga summit. This one-day event will provide application-driven introductions to the latest Zhaga standards, review their market reception, and solicit inputs from the specifier community through workshops.

Zhaga and MD-SIG recently announced that they have agreed to align their efforts and to proceed as a single organization under the Zhaga Consortium. Zhaga members have access to the former MD-SIG specifications as part of their Zhaga membership.
