Signify Now 3D Prints Luminaires for European Consumers

Signify recently announced a service that allows consumers to tailor and order luminaires online and have products 3D printed from recyclable materials and delivered.

After a successful pilot project, Signify is expanding this service across Europe. Consumers select a base design, size, color, texture, and pattern for the luminaire and LED lamping, which may include Philips Hue lamps. Signify then delivers the finished product to the customer’s door within two weeks.

Signify’s 3D printed luminaires are built using a strong, 100% recyclable polycarbonate (which by the end of 2020 Signify expects will all be recovered from recycled CDs) as the base material. According to the company, a typical manufactured luminaire, excluding the electronics and lamp, has a 47% lower carbon footprint and is 33% lighter than a traditionally built metal luminaire, with no glue and fewer parts.
