Shemitz Memorial Scholarship for Lighting Design Students Now Open

The Lighting Quotient and the Illuminating Engineers Society have announced the third annual Sylvan R. Shemitz Memorial Scholarship, created in honor of Lighting Quotient founder Sylvan R. Shemitz, which aims to support the future generation of lighting designers, engineers and architects. The $2,500 prize will be awarded to a student who demonstrates creativity, vision and knowledge in the field of architectural lighting.

To apply, students must read the facility description and follow the project requirements, including a lighting plan, lighting fixture schedule and specifications (available for download here). This year’s project focuses on an collegiate campus facility. The application also requires a 250-word statement of the objectives and goals of the lighting design concept and two letters of recommendation from principal instructors at the student’s current design program. The submission is open to all second, third, fourth or fifth year undergraduate or graduate students in an accredited design program.

The deadline is March 16, 2012; the winner will be announced the week of April 30, 2012.
