Starbucks Begins LED Retrofit of More than 8,000 Stores

starbucksI just discovered General Electric’s nifty blog and learned about a big sale of LED lighting systems to more than 8,000 Starbucks stores, replacing existing incandescent and halogen lamps. So far, Starbucks has completed installation in more than 1,000 stores and will expand to international stores in March 2010. It’s all part of Starbucks’ goal of slashing energy use by one-fourth by the end of next year.

Check it out here.

    Craig –
We have experienced over 2 years of endless parade of vendors coming to show us the screw-in LED product that “was going in to all the Starbucks stores”. We are less than a mile from the Starbucks World HQ and the prospect of selling to them is intoxicating to too many lighting vendors. (Boeing and Microsoft have the same effect.) I truly hope this GE product means the end of the parade, or it will mean yet another lighting vendor intoxicated by the fumes of Starbucks sales profits.

  2. Craig,

The idea of a screw-in LED is pretty widespread. LightFair in NYC was bursting at the seams with these. I did find one manufacturer that caught my eye. Borealis Lighting (Chicago-based) had a fairly good product line including MR16′s, A19′s, B10, PAR30 and PAR38. It’s worth checking out this manufacturer as color consistency was good and the lamp actually looked pretty good from an aesthetic perspective.
